Our Team

Architect & Community Planner – is Don Cooper, AIA of Cooper Johnson Smith, Architects and Town Planners. The firm’s mission statement is “the creation of environments that are both innovative and timeless, and that provide a meaningful sense of place.  Our work endeavors to reunite architecture with the art of town-making. Our vision for individual buildings draws upon our principles of urbanism, including our responsibility to be stewards of the natural environment. We strive to create built environments that nurture the human spirit and provide the opportunity for a rich and meaningful civic life. It is our mission to participate in the reconstruction of the traditional city and its landscape.”

Don’s work is well known throughout the coastal areas of Florida and the Caribbean, and his work includes over thirty homes in the internationally-acclaimed Florida resort town of Seaside, along with homes in Watercolor, Rosemary Beach, and Alys Beach.  The firm was selected to design Coastal Living Magazine’s Idea House in 2005, and their work is often published in Southern Living, Florida Architecture, Florida Design Review, New Old House Journal, Period Homes, Custom Home and Coastal Living magazines.

Don’s ongoing role with Redfish Cove will be as a member of the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) through which he will guide homeowners and builders in correctly interpreting the Architectural Code so as to ensure the architectural harmony of Redfish Cove.

“I am very pleased and excited to be part of the Redfish Cove team. It is not often that a property such as this offers all involved (architect, builder and homeowner) not only the personal opportunity to create a special sense of place, but one that also has a positive and enduring effect on those who live nearby.”

“It is not often that we ask to be involved in a new community; generally we develop our own. However, when I saw Redfish Cove coming out of the ground, I immediately called Jeff Gravely, for whom I have the highest regard and have known for 20 years. Once he explained the architectural vision, I had to be part of Redfish Cove. For homeowners here, life will certainly be well played.”

Jeff Gravely has been a resident of Manatee County since 1981. “When the opportunity to acquire the land for Redfish Cove presented itself, we did not have to think about it for very long. Our goal was to form a team that could help bring our vision to fruition. That has been achieved and we now look forward to seeing homes under construction and knowing the homeowners who will be our neighbors.
